The Ku Klux Klan, also known as the Klan or the KKK, originated in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1865. The first KKK was formed by six Civil war veterans, with the purpose to restore power to the plantation owners. The people that the KKK was against was African Americans and republicans. The second KKK was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1921. This KKK lasted much longer and had millions of members, partially due to their organization with finances and members. The third KKK was founded as a civil rights movement in the 1950’s. The Ku Klux Klan was formed when six educated civil war veterans during the reconstruction of the south. Ever since 1865 the KKK are well known for their hatred toward those who don’t share their views. (Carnes, Night Riding With the Klan.) The Klan used public violence to intimidate the blacks, they would burn houses, kill people, and leave their body in the road. The Klan also adopted the mask and hoods to add an intimidation effect to the night rides. They acted as an extension of the army for the Democratic Party, and would destroy the infrastructure of the democratic. They also murdered the black leaders.
